Sustainable Development Commission Provides Case Studies for Achieving SDG’s

A report commissioned by Volans and the Business and Sustainable Development Commission, called “Breakthrough Business Models: Exponentially More Social, Lean, Integrated and Circular” states that “the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a more radical agenda than most business leaders yet realize.”

The study features case studies of companies and organizations that are using a combination of exponential technologies and innovative new business models to drive progress against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The report details four “exponential” characteristics of these breakthrough business models, which include the following:

  • Social: delivering positive impacts for people, in the present and in the future
  • Lean: optimizing the use of all forms of capital, including human and natural
  • Integrated: managing value creation across economic, social and environmental systems
  • Circular: sustaining inputs and outputs at their highest value in both technical and biological cycles
