Abstract: Current sustainability models lack frameworks that integrate theoretical reasoning into implementable use cases. This paper uses case study analysis focused on sustainable development. Three distinct contributions are made in this work as evidenced by the examined cases. The first contribution identifies mediating factors that should be included in any framework to describe sustainable development. The second contribution uses neural network applications to validate the model by ensuring the indicator data can predict the target sustainable development score. The third contribution creates a new framework for sustainable development models that considers other factors that impact sustainability outside of social, environmental and economic influences. Engineering managers can use these results to implementable strategies to achieve specific sustainability development goals.
