Air Pollution Mitigation in Metropolitans Using a System Dynamics Approach

Cities are actively looking for ways to reduce air pollution, but many are running into issues with establishing effective strategies and dealing with all of the complexities of public policy.  Researchers in this study performed a detailed investigation to identify the variables that affect air pollution. Subsequently, policies  were developed and tested using system dynamics simulation modelling for Mexico City, Mexico. The policies considered after extensive research are taxes for heavy-polluting industries, increased renewable energy requirements, and the development of a public transportation system.
